BEAUTIFUL VERMONT

My ultimate destination, where I grew up, wonderful but cold and snowy northern VT. That's not the reason I left but it is probably part of the reason I never moved back. Just too dang much cold and snow. Spring and fall are absolutely gorgeous but you've gotta be be crazy to stay there year round when there's so many other places in this great country of ours that are just as beautiful without all that damn snow.

If you're too old to ski, I'm talking about old people of course, not me! There's plenty to do like zip lining through all that beautiful fall foliage.

My all time favorite spot that I never go with out visiting is the Fairfax Falls dam and powerhouse. It's located on RT 104 outside of Fairfax VT and if you are a fan of the absolute awesomeness of mother nature this is a must-see stop for you. As you drive along RT 104 you get an occasional view of the peaceful meandering Lamoille river but you'd never imagine how all that peacefulness can be transformed as it suddenly drops a hundred feet over the falls and then just as suddenly returns to a slow moving peaceful river after the falls. Part of the falls feeds a powerhouse that has been in continuous operation since the 1700's but the bulk of the falls rushes over massive boulders that is a draw for kids and more adventurous adults alike as you can climb the huge boulders right up to the edge of the falls.

While I was in Vermont I was fortunate enough to stay with one of my nephews who said he had plenty of room to park my RV and trailer. Aaron and his wife Becky have a large piece of property in the mountains with a house and barn/garage. Aaron is the son of my brother I stayed with in NH.
The first thing I had to do was install a power box on the outside wall of his garage and wire it into a new breaker in his main garage power to plug in my RV.
I may have mentioned how the Guinness brothers love to find projects to do together. Well this, of course, extends down through the family and when Aaron mentioned a project I was all in for it. He needed a way to get his canoe out of the weather what with the winter snows coming soon so we put our heads together and not only got the canoe inside the barn but rigged up a rope and pulley system to get it up into the rafters and out of the way.

For those of you who have never experienced a New England fall I'll post a few more teaser pictures of the gorgeous foliage at the bottom of this page.
Most of my time in VT was spent just visiting relatives, visiting the neighborhood I grew up in, etc, so I won't bore you with any of that. Because of the holdups in NH and NY the winter weather was fast approaching so with snow on my heels I finally loaded up and headed in the opposite direction. Next stop Kentucky.

Well, ok I'm going to leave you with this for now. More adventures from the dashing world traveler later. DAGU
